Marietta Driver Killed, Passengers Injured in Single Car Crash

May 30, 2011 - Marietta, GA - A Marietta man was killed and his 2 passengers injured when loss of control caused him to crash his Dodge Caravan into a telephone pole and strike a building.

WGCL Atlanta reports that Sergio Mendoza Leon, 31, lost control of his minivan on May 24, 2011 around 7 p.m. while traveling north on Wallace Road near the Gresham Road intersection. Marietta police say he was traveling at a high rate of speed when he veered off the road, striking a telephone pole.

The vehicle continued on before finally coming to a stop as it slammed into a nearby building. The impact caused damage to the building and a gas leak which luckily did not ignite. During the incident, Leon was thrown from the minivan and killed.

Leon's 2 passengers, Jazmin Martinez, 35, and Eduardo Reyes, 20, were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with minor injuries. Police have cited alcohol as a factor in this fatal accident.
