According to the DeKalb County Police Department, an off-duty MARTA bus driver was arrested early Wednesday morning for driving on the wrong side of the road and driving while drunk. The MARTA employee was driving southbound in the northbound lane of Lawrenceville Highway near DeKalb Industrial Parkway. A DeKalb County police officer was driving southbound lane when she spotted the drunk driver, and tried to warn oncoming traffic of the wrong-way driver.

As the officer tried to pull ahead of the driver, the driver sped up and veered into the officer’s lane, hitting the rear quarter of the police car. The officer braked, stopping both vehicles, and arrested the driver. The driver was charged with a DUI and driving on the wrong side of the road.

According to a MARTA spokesperson, the employee has been put on unpaid leave until an internal investigation has been completed. No information on the condition of the officer was provided.
